“Sticky & Sweet” Madonna’s world tour kicks off at Cardiff’s Millennium Stadium on Saturday, includes 49 dates and is due to wrap up in Sao Paulo on December 18.
The two-hour show will be broken into four sections: 1920’s “gangsta pimp,” old-school New York club, gyspy (described as a “VIP trip to ‘La Isla Bonita’ infused by the spirit of Romanian folk music”) and far-eastern inspired rave.
Each performance will include Madonna’s hits that span nearly 30 years in pop music including the latest album “Hard Candy,” while the singer models more costumes.
She’ll open the show wearing Givenchy’s Riccardo Tisci who contributed several outfits. Tom Ford is responsible for the band’s suits; Miu Miu and Stella McCartney for shoes; Moschino for the sunglasses and other pieces are coming from Yves Saint Laurent, Roberto Cavalli and Jeremy Scott.
The first set of costumes is both gangsta style and Art Deco, next the ’80s-inspired pieces with vintage Keith Haring prints, gypsy costumes from Givenchy, and ending with a futuristic rave with a Japanese touch.
On stage, she will be joined by 16 dancers and a 12-piece band and Britney Spears will be making a virtual appearance on the tour.
The Recording Industry Association of America has described her as the best-selling female rock artist of the 20th century and the second top-selling female artist in the United States.
Guinness World Records list her as the world’s most successful female recording artist of all time and she has sold around 200 million albums.
